Treating Alcoholism

Individual counseling

  • Talk therapy addresses feelings of shame, guilt, anger, and sadness that may have led to drinking.
  • Grief therapy helps in the healing process after the loss of a loved one.

Group counseling

  • Provides a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere
  • Builds coping and social skills
  • Establishes supportive friendships, inside and outside of the group
  • 12-step programs focus on peer support, spirituality, and regular meeting attendance. Some Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) groups are specifically for older adults.
