Alice's Story

Dealing with Anxiety

"Last year, I fell and broke my hip while I was mopping my kitchen floor. Lucky for me, I was able to make a fairly quick recovery after my surgery.

In the months after my fall, though, I became more and more nervous about leaving my apartment or moving around too much. I worried about every little thing.

It got to the point where I was afraid to go out and get some fresh air even on a nice, sunny day. I thought I would trip and fall. I just sat and watched TV all day long. That was no good for me either, because all the news stories on terrorism and war made me a nervous wreck!
I stopped going to my weekly bingo games and my younger brother had to bring my groceries to me since I was too scared to go to the supermarket. Some of my friends finally spoke up and said I should visit my doctor.

My doctor told me that I was suffering from anxiety. He prescribed some medicine and helped me find a therapist who I could talk with about my constant worry.

I also switched from regular to decaf coffee. Every little bit has made a difference! I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders."
