What is Depression?
Clinical depression (also called major depression) is a treatable illness.
People who have been sad for more than a few weeks and find that their sadness affects their everyday life may have major depression.
Not all people who are depressed are sad, though. Poor sleep, losing or gaining weight, or having little interest in things that used to be fun can also be signs of depression.
Each year, many adults age 65 or older in the United States have some form of depression. Here's the good news: depression is a treatable problem–just like heart disease and diabetes. So, if you think you may be depressed, see your doctor!
