Hector's Story
Overcoming Addiction
"I've always enjoyed my beer. When I was still working in El Paso, I always had a beer or two after I came home from work. On weekends I had a few beers when I was watching sports on TV. After I retired, though, I began to drink earlier in the day. Gradually I was drinking more and more. I began to wonder if I had a problem with alcohol.
My wife, Carmen, kept saying that she was worried about me, but that just made me angry. One morning my friend Paulo stopped by and I had already had a few drinks. Paulo suggested that I call Alcoholics Anonymous. I started going to their meetings and they've helped me a lot. I have the support that I need when I want another drink. I'm learning to take better care of myself."
