Grow Strength in Your Garden

Gardening is a wonderful, gentle activity that creates beautiful rewards: flowers, vegetables, and a stronger self!

Here are some seeds for thought:

Be smart…

• Stretch before you get started. Click on How to Stretch.
• Stand up and stretch often while you're working in your garden.
• Get down! If you work bent over, you may get a stiff back. Don't show off your bottom! When your hands are working close to the ground, you should be on one knee or both knees.
• Kneel on something soft, like a pillow, or use kneepads. Try sitting on a low, lightweight stool.

Be prepared…

• Choose gardening tools with good grips and large, long handles. Cover wood handles that have sharp edges with duct tape.
• Wear gloves to prevent blisters.

Be strong…

• Don't drag heavy bags of mulch or dirt. Break them into smaller loads.
