Second Time Around

Most women live longer than men. In fact, more than half of older women don't have a spouse.

How can an older woman find love and companionship in later life? We asked some of our PARC readers:

"Ten years after my husband died, I went to a high school reunion and got reacquainted with my old sweetheart. He's my new sweetheart now." --Althea Rogers, Tacoma Park, MD

"Martha and I lived down the hall from each other at our assisted living facility. It all started over a game of Scrabble in the common room." --Harry Gillis, Minneapolis, MN

"I struck up a conversation with this dashing gentleman in the waiting room at my dentist's office. I figured, at 79, what do I have to lose? I did lose a tooth that day, but I gained a man. My life isn't a waiting room any more!" --Terry Edler, Greenville, NC

"We were looking for books by the same author at the library. We ended up checking out our books at the same time and she asked me if I wanted to go out for coffee. We've been reading and drinking coffee together ever since." --Pat Engels, Los Angeles, CA

Age does not protect you from Love, But Love, to some extent, Protects you from Age. --Jeanne Moreau
