One-Day Trips

Sometimes a trip to a place far away isn't in the budget. Sometimes health problems get in the way of going far from home. No matter where you live, though, adventures wait just around the corner!

Look at your town as a tourist would. To find out what's happening in your own neck of the woods, try these hints:

• Contact the National Park Service to find out about historical homes or battle sites nearby.
• Call your local chamber of commerce and your state's tourism office to learn about upcoming festivals, free concerts, and garden tours.
• Call your local department of parks and recreation. They often have great day trips at bargain rates for older adults.

Then decide when your next "vacation" will be. Treat yourself to a special breakfast, put on your comfortable walking shoes, and take a trip to a place that will delight your senses and fill your mind with new ideas.
