Shower Power
The simple act of bathing a sick loved one can be hard work. Sometimes the person you are caring for may become dizzy easily or unsteady on his or her feet. Here are some tips for making a bath or shower safe and relaxing again.
Get Ready
Make sure there's a no-slip bath mat in the tub.
Buy soap on a rope. It's easier to hold onto than regular bar soap.
Use a terry cloth wash mitt instead of a slippery washcloth.
Place a sponge at the end of a long handle. It may make it easier to reach feet and lower legs.
Get Set
Some people feel more comfortable sitting down in the shower. If your shower doesn't have a seat, put a steady lawn chair right into the tub—on top of the bath mat.
Go
After your loved one's shower, hop in the tub yourself that evening. Enjoy the wonderful, relaxing power of water!
