Tips for Journal Writing

If you want to make your journal part of your life every day, here are some hints:

Choose a time

• Try to write just a little each day.
• Try to write at the same time every day. Some people like to write first thing in the morning. Others like to write at the end of the day. Find a time that works for you.

Choose a place

• Find a comfortable spot to write. Some people like to write in a quiet room with no distractions. Others like to write in inspiring places—in the garden, beside a beautiful window.
• If you feel alone when you're writing, take your journal to a coffee shop or a public park.

Choose your tools

• Find a nice notebook or a special pen to use just for journal writing. You may want to use a journal with a lock or write on your PC. Do whatever feels comfortable.
• If arthritis makes writing painful, use a tape recorder to record your thoughts.

Choose your rewards

• Make your journal time enjoyable. Try putting your feet up and sipping tea or lemonade while you write. Listen to your favorite music while you let the words flow.
• Use these tips as a guide, but do what works for you. Create your own routine and style.
