Travel on a Shoestring
If money is an issue (and it is for most of us!), here are some tips for traveling on a budget:
• Check out travel websites for cheap flights, hotel rooms, and last-minute deals.
• Travel locally. Many great destinations wait right in your backyard. Go to a nearby city and explore it as if you've never been there before. Visit museums, historical sites, public parks, and ethnic neighborhoods.
• Take the bus. It's inexpensive and many bus companies offer senior discounts.
• Travel off-season. Try Florida in the summer, Europe in the cold winter months, and New York City mid-week.
• Always ask if hotels, tour operators, and train companies offer senior discounts.
