Donna CastilloCOPE Behavioral Services, in partnership with a community health center and a rural behavioral health provider, will expand its Elder Services Program to provide mental health screening, outreach, community education, early intervention, and integrated primary/mental health care to currently underserved Mexican American, Native American, and rural older adults in Pima County, Arizona.
The COTTAGE program will increase equitable access to mental health services for targeted racial/ethnic and rural older adults and coordinate primary health care, mental health, and aging services. This program will also provide mental health treatment, information, and resources to increase the capacity of older adults to live independently. It will provide community education and develop coalitions specific to aging and behavioral health issues.
COPE, the lead agency and applicant, will contract with El Rio Santa Cruz Community Health Center to provide health care to urban, predominantly Mexican American and Native American elders. COPE will contract with Casa de Esperanza to provide coordinated primary/behavioral health care to elderly residents of rural Green Valley, Arizona. The proposed program will use a strengths-based approach to assess and build upon individual functional capacities, interests, cultural values, and preferences. Counseling services will be provided either on site or in the elders' homes.
