Program Coordinator: Elizabeth Stadick
Director of Prevention Services: Monica de la Cerda
Program Evaluator: Anthony J. Alberta, Ph.D.

Tiempo de Oro offers community-based, culturally appropriate prevention and treatment services. This new program, which is led by Valle del Sol, Inc., in Phoenix, Arizona, targets Latinos, ages 65 and older, with mental health needs in Maricopa County. Partners include the Area Agency on Aging, Region One, and the Sonoran Research Group.

Using the Area Agency on Aging's ElderVention program as a starting point, Tiempo de Oro has expanded and adapted its components for increased cultural competence. The project offers prevention education sessions at senior centers and home-based prevention education. Valle del Sol provides treatment services to this continuum to enhance the integrated preventative treatment model of Tiempo de Oro.

The Tiempo de Oro activities and content have been developed in collaboration with elder members of the communities in which services are provided. This collaboration has resulted in culturally appropriate prevention education materials, program development, and service delivery grounded in the culture of the community. Tiempo de Oro's intervention approach fosters mental health through both personal and community empowerment strategies.
